Bulletin NB Vol. 7 N. 9, June 2004

In November 2003, we issued a bulletin about a business dispute between the Association des Chirurgiens Dentistes du Québec (the sole owner of Dentaide) and the main insurers who use the ESI card to process the dental transactions of their insurees, namely Desjardins Financial Security, La Capitale, La Survivance and SSQ Financial Group. This dispute has led to a situation where many dentists refused to use the new ESI payment card.

The various parties concerned announced that an agreement in principle has recently intervened. This agreement will now enable Quebec dentists to accept ESI payment cards issued to persons insured by the insurance companies in question. ESI Canada will ensure the reimbursement service for claims transmitted electronically while Dentaide will ensure the reimbursement service for claims transmitted by telephone. However, since some administrative adjustments will be necessary during the coming weeks, the Dentaide telephone service will only be completely operational at the beginning of August. During this transition period, ESI Canada will also ensure the telephone service.
