NB Bulletin Vol. 4 N. 4, April 2001
RAMQ has modified its eligible drug list¸ effective April 1¸ 2001¸ by transferring NicoretteTM¸ a product designed to help people quit smoking¸ from the exemption list to the general list as are NicodermTM and ZybanTM. Furthermore¸ HabitrolTM (nicotine skin patches) is also added to the general list.
For private health insurance plans¸ the overall eligible maximum of $500 per calendar year applies to all of these products. No health insurance premium rate adjustment request by insurance companies is foreseen as a result of the change announced by RAMQ. Nevertheless¸ the increased use of products designed to help people quit smoking or the eventual increase of the $500 yearly maximum could have an impact on premium rates on a mid-term basis.
